Hyacinths symbolize jealousy, a desire for forgiveness, joy, and sincerity, depending on the flower color. Yellow hyacinths are linked to jealousy, purple flowers mean you're seeking forgiveness, and blue hyacinths are tied to sincere care.

"Hey wait a minute, E.K.," you might be saying, "where's prompt #5?" Well, I wanted to do art for it and am like 45% done with the lineart, but I'm back in my native country for a week and, like a dummy, I forgot to bring my drawing tablet, so that's gonna have to wait. So! I've decided to go ahead with prompt #6 anyway because I already had an idea for what I wanted to do with it.

Anyway! Hyacinth! One of my current favorite webcomic characters is Hyacinth Lavande from Leif & Thorn by [personal profile] erinptah.

Full body portrait of Hyacinth in a black Alexander McQueen dress.
(You can reblog this one on tumblr btw.)

She is Thorn's teen goth niece with a strong interest in social justice. There are a lot of ways a character like this can go wrong, regardless of an author's own political leanings, but Erin pulls it off so well, it kind of blew my mind! I genuinely didn't expect to like Hyacinth as much as I did, yet here we are! Let's see what's so neat about her.

Let me tell you about my blorbo. )

When I saw the bonus prompt, I knew exactly what I wanted to show people. I'm somewhat vague about where I'm from for privacy reasons and I might lock this post some time after the challenge passes for those same reasons, but right now I just want to show you an iconic song from my native country, Bulgaria. It's called, well, White Rose and it's by the folk singer Slavka Kalcheva.

In the language of flowers, the bluebell is a symbol of humility, constancy, gratitude and everlasting love.

I had some drabble ideas, related to the symbology of today's prompt, but I didn't really feel like writing today. I looked up bluebells on Wikipedia for ideas and found out they're called Hasenglöckchen in German, which translated literally translates to "rabbit's small bell". So, I decided to draw a cute bunny with a bluebell bell around its neck!

Ink and colored pencil drawing of a brown bunny with a bluebell used as a bell around its neck. Text reads next to it reads. 11.07, Sunshine Chellenge 2023 Nr. 3 Bluebell.

I haven't practiced my inks enough and I haven't used pencils for coloring in ages—since I mostly do that digitally nowadays—so it's a bit wonky, but I'm happy with it! :3

Generally, gladioli represent strength of character, faithfulness, moral integrity, and remembrance.

I actually had to look up what this flower was 'cause I'd never heard the name before. This lead me to also seeing the Wikipedia article, according to which its named derives from the Latin word for sword. This is what gave me an idea on what I want to share for this prompt: Fate Unlimited Blade Works AMVs! Specifically, ones about the main character of the Fate/Stay Night game, Shirou Emiya. They're all made by the same creator. Spoiler warning for all of them, by the way.

I couldn't get the embeds to work, so text is all there is behind this cut. )

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
 Unknown to Death,
 Nor known to Life.
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
But yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works.

Iris: They can represent faith, hope, courage, wisdom and admiration.

I'll admit, I'm not super into poetry. There's poems I like, sure, but it's not something I actively seek out, and I don't think about the ones I've read often. Furthermore, the poems (and art in general) I like tends to be more on the darker side, so not very likely to fit the above-linked prompt. Oh, and I prefer reading longfic, so drabbles are a total no-go.

But still, I wanted to think of something, for a little extra challenge. I was wracking my brain for several minutes, when a memory finally floated up from somewhere deep inside my mind. It was a soundbite of a man, voice both tired and full of hope, saying "But when I close my eyes I see a world where we all work together. And it's so. Fucking. Beautiful." That, my friends, is the final line of The Sufferer's Final Sermon by Justin Briner.

Let me tell you about it. )
